Kundalini Yoga and Meditation

The Yoga of Awareness

"The Power of Kundalini Yoga lies in the actual experience. It goes right into your heart and extends your consciousness so you may have a wider horizon of grace and knowing the truth." ~ Yogi Bhajan

The practice of Kundalini Yoga balances the glandular system, strengthens the nervous system, and enables us to harness the energy of the mind and the emotions, so we can be in control of ourselves, rather than being controlled by our thoughts and feelings. This technology combines breath, mudra, eye-focus, mantra, body locks, and postures in a precise, conscious manner to affect body, mind, and soul.
“Kundalini” is the flow of energy and consciousness that exists within each of us and enables us to merge with or “yoke” the universal Self. Kundalini yoga is based on kriyas, or specially formulated sets of exercises. This allows you to target specific areas and work on exactly those aspects of yourself that need focus at the current time.

Kundalini Yoga is a yoga for householders, for people who have to cope with the daily challenges and stresses of holding jobs, raising families, and managing businesses. Kundalini Yoga is for everyone who wants the skills to cope successfully with the challenges of living in this age.

Yoga Therapy & other modalities

I am also a qualified Yoga Therapist and Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant and also offer private lessons as well as individualized yoga therapy sessions (recognised by YA) where we work together towards facing and overcoming your specific physical/emotional/mental/spiritual health concerns or goals using ancient techniques of yoga, that is achievable and fits in with your lifestyle.  It's hard to get through challenges alone and I am honoured to be a source of support & guidance on your journey.  Sometimes it's just a physical pain and I can offer you specific combination of poses to help. You can come regularly weekly, monthly or just have three sessions in the space of 6 months.  Occasionally 1 session is enough, I find this is especially often true with children, possibly as there is less 'build-up' of tension/patterns.  You might just want help designing a personal practice or to have a mentoring session.  There is a face-to-face session and you will take away a detailed personalized program (including instructions, diagrams or photos of you doing the practice) and any recordings of breathing, relaxation or meditation that can be used as often as you like at home. I will follow up on your progress in case we need to modify anything and to help keep you motivated!

In May of 2014 I attended a specialty course in Bendigo called “Supporting People with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder through Kundalini Yoga.”  It was a four day training put together by DR Shanti Shanti Kaur Khalsa who is the founder and director of The Guru Ram Das Center for Medicine and Humanology with the intention of training teachers to implement a specific eight (now ten) week curriculum in various populations with PTSD.  The kriyas, or yoga sets, were chosen to restore internal rhythmic balance, increase vitality, improve sleep, and work with the psoas muscle where trauma is believed to be held in the body.   These kriyas and meditations work for trauma survivors regardless of the source of trauma.  The program is effective for both simple and complex trauma.  Clinical diagnosis is not a pre-requisite for participation. Although you will be required to complete a registration process

A formal research study has been conducted on the effectiveness of this curriculum and you can read the results of the findings here.
